The lead-in is deceptive, yet, with hindsight, a hint that something maybe not entirely "normal" was going on. I was too distracted to notice at the time, but it does fit. For a short story, this was pretty good. It actually had a plot that managed to surprise me. I didn't know anything about it prior to reading it, only what the blurb says, so I had no idea what to expect.

Before starting this short story, the author tells the reader that this was meant to be a small sample of her writing style to see if it was something that you would like. Josh and Ethan were characters that I instantly wanted to know more about, and I was truly upset that the ending came so fast. I would have loved for this to be a full sized story. The ending left me surprised, and I would have loved to see where this story could have gone.
