Why does eponine love marius

You think? The question we have is this: why? We don't know for sure; Hugo never uses any of his approximately 10 billion words to tell us.

But we think it has something to do with Marius. But at least she's still capable of loving. And what is love? That big thing Hugo is trying to teach us: thinking about someone else for a change. In other words, empathy. Eponine crawls toward Marius and confesses her love to him. She hands Marius a letter from Cosette and dies.

Marius writes Cosette a letter telling her he will die on the barricades and bidding her farewell. Marius sends Gavroche to deliver the news. Valjean intercepts the boy and says that he will deliver the letter to Cosette himself.

Gavroche is scornful at first, then feels sympathy for the old man and gives him the letter. Valjean asks Gavroche where the barricade is. Although hate has the power to blind someone to what is right and wrong, it leads to many unfortunate events and has no closure or advantages. On the other hand, love influences people to make selfless decisions that benefit others and leads to happiness, acceptance, and justice. Miss Pross is able to be content and give Lucie happiness after killing Madame Defarge.

Carton is able to accept his life and die knowing his legacy will live on. Furthermore, as everyone must be aware of, Cyrano was in love with Roxane. But because he was such a trustworthy friend, he agreed to protect Christian Loyal, devoted, selfless, prideful, and knowledgeable. These are just a few of the many traits that will be sincerely missed.

It is that behind the scenes, between the lines, relationship that is so important. It was a pain that was so horrible and so hidden that everyone mistook it for joy. All of this makes her death freeing because once her husband is shown alive that is her only way. She is so proud in her beliefs that she is willing to die for them, and she does.

Her lack of humility when confronting Creon leads to her tragic end. If Creon and Antigone had not been so proud and stubborn with their beliefs, they may have had the opportunity to strike a compromise and not have gone to their tragic demises. Both Alcee and Calixta cheated on their spouse, however, they both knew that when the stor was over they would return to faithfulness with their mates. Alcee obviously felt regretful, as indicated when the author writes; "It was a loving letter full of tender solicitude.

The storm had passed and it looked as if everyone in Alcee's situation was going to be happy. If he had confessed his love to Roxane earlier, Roxane would definitely appreciate it and the couple then would have lived happily together.

This is not fate nor coincidence. In complete control of his life, Cyrano is arrogant, deceptive, and hesitant in his actions; this ultimately leads to the great tragedy. As a result, we conclude that Cyrano has technically jeopardized himself.

But it doesn't affect the point that Eponine is both doomed and redeemed by her hopeless love for one inadequate student. Also second the comment above. Book-Eponine may be a bit of a mess, but she's still way hotter than Cosette.

That was great to read. She did show signs of trauma which I liked not that she was still hurting but the fact that she was a bit more realistic when someone touches her to wake her she immediatly covers her face as a reflex and she seems so scared when she sees the Thenardiers. But I completely agree with you :.

This is so old, I know. Have you read the book? The characters make much more sense with the greater context: Marius is the first man to be show basic decency to Eponine, so she falls for him there really isn't very much more of a happy ending that she could have gotten; she latches onto Marius bc marrying him would improve her social standing, and subsequently her future.

No other man in her life has given her any promising attention, it's quite sad , her parents are selfish and don't care about securing her future, the only way she could gain independence from that would be through prostitution, and we see how that plays out for Fantine Cosette has much more personality there's a line stating that "she was more of a lark than a dove" and is a recurring symbol of hope in the novel, not just there to move the plot.

There's only so much character development that can be shown when you make a musical out of a book with over , words, and that means people are going to only see these simplified versions of characters and form judgements based on that. Honestly, I think the biggest mistake we all make in talking about Eponine and Cosette is trying to put the characters in competition.

They're both lovely young women, with different situations and literary purposes, and trying to compare them does them both such a disservice. Team Eponine? Team Cosette? Lol I'm Team Both. Wednesday, 24 April Eponine vs Cosette. No this is not going to be a post about who i think would win in a fight between the two girls; this is going to be a serious post dammit!!
