The practitioner very gently touches or sometimes hovers their hands over a persons body. I have given Reiki to dozens, if not hundreds of pregnant people over the last 15 years. I myself was attuned to Reiki while pregnant with my third child, and received Reiki on a regular basis throughout my pregnancy.
I also did self-Reiki during my labour and had little to no pain! In fact, I actually had some incidents of spotting during my pregnancy. I did self-Reiki and the bleeding would stop. Your own body is in charge and takes it in as needed and where needed most. Reiki can also help you let go of any fears, anxieties, or negative feelings you may be experiencing during your pregnancy.
Even better? Your growing baby will also enjoy the soothing benefits of this complementary therapy which is passed from you to your unborn child during the session. It can also be used for everything from treating anxiety to easing labor, delivery, and recovery. Many women find pregnancy to be an opportune time to learn Reiki, receive an attunement or continue their Reiki training.
The practice is simple to learn and can be used both for self-care and to share with others. She asked for my reaction to the statement.
I told her I expected it came from the thought that the Reiki energy might cause labor to prematurely start. I did not believe that to be true because I knew from my private practice and from my students that Reiki had only benefited them during their pregnancy.
I also believe very strongly that 'Reiki can never cause harm' and is appropriate for all situations, therefore can be used at any point in the pregnancy for the highest good. There is a differing opinion among Reiki Masters regarding the unborn baby receiving an attunement to the Reiki energy.
Some feel that as the mother is being attuned the baby is also being attuned to Reiki. Others disagree, saying that the baby is in no way part of the attunement process. There is a connection or bond between the baby and Reiki.
Does this mean that the baby is a Reiki Practitioner, only spirit knows the answer to that question? I do know that 'Reiki Babies' seem to respond to the world around them differently than other babies. I realize that there is no controlled scientific study in these cases, however there is certainly evidence that the use of Reiki before, during, and after pregnancy has positive results both for the mother and baby.
My daughter, Wayles who is a Reiki Master , and I have talked about her future pregnancies. There is no question, she will be receiving a Reiki attunement during her pregnancy and will use the Reiki daily during pregnancy for the health and contentment of her baby and herself. Some of these benefits are listed below.
Reiki works either when a healer administers it on another person or when people do it on themselves. Pregnant women can do the same thing as well, only if they are proficient in Reiki themselves.
Although usual Reiki sessions last for an hour or so, pregnant women should restrict their self-administered sessions to half the duration. Practising Reiki on your self while you are pregnant can instil within you a sense of confidence and the ability to calm yourself down, should you start feeling anxious and stressed for no reason.
There are a few simple steps that you can adhere to when performing Reiki on your self when you are pregnant. Then, slowly move your hands to the back of your neck, then to the top of your head. Later, bring them to the chest. Once again, give ample time to each area covered. Now place the hands on your heart, then move them gradually under the ribs and over the navel.
Continue channelling energy in these regions with the right intention in your mind. There is no conclusive evidence to either support or disprove it.
